Stockholm City Hall, an example of the city's landmark architecture – Stockholm art and architecture tour

About this Stockholm art and architecture tour

Discover underground station art and Scandinavian architectural design, from medieval streets to modern public spaces.

We look at how Stockholm was actually designed — the ideas behind the buildings, the public art in the metro, the shift from old to new. Good for anyone who wants to see how the city was planned, not just where it is old.

The route is easy walking with a short metro ride between stops. Room to slow down wherever something catches your eye.

What’s included

  • Guided walk with a local expert
  • Metro ticket for the art-station stretch
  • Notes on where to see more design on your own

Adapt this tour

Tell me what interests you before we start — historic architecture, modern design, or mostly metro art. See all private tours in Stockholm.

Good to know before your Stockholm art and architecture tour

Where we meet

We meet at your hotel, or at a place we agree on in the city. The walk is easy. There are some stairs at the metro stations. Your metro ticket for the art-station stretch is included.

What we look at

We look at three layers of the city: the medieval streets, the public art in the metro, and the modern public spaces. I tell you about the ideas behind the buildings, not only the dates. After the tour, you get notes on where to see more design on your own.

Languages

I guide this tour in English, German or Swedish. Tell me which language you prefer when you send your request.

Stairs and access needs

If stairs are difficult for you, tell me before you book. I can plan a route with fewer stairs. Most tours can be offered with an adapted route.

When to go

The tour runs all year. Part of the route is underground, in the metro stations. That makes it a good choice on a rainy or cold day.

Children

Children are welcome. I adapt the route, the pace and the stories to keep them interested.

Price, payment and cancellation

I do not have a fixed price list. The price depends on the number of guests and the hours. Within 24 hours, you get a route and a clear price quote. You pay by bank transfer, in cash, or online by Stripe, PayPal or credit card. Cancel more than 48 hours before the tour for a full refund of any online payment.

More time in Stockholm?

A full-day private tour of Stockholm can combine this tour with another one, for example the Stockholm food tour, which ends with fika.
