Fjärås Naturum (naturum Fjärås Bräcka): a simple guide

Just south of Gothenburg sits Fjärås Bräcka—an Ice Age ridge with sweeping views, a thoughtful visitor centre (naturum), and one of Halland’s most striking Viking-Age grave fields. It’s an easy half-day stop that combines geology, history and short walks with coffee and cake.

Why go

• Unique landscape: Fjärås Bräcka is a 4-km-long end moraine that dams Lake Lygnern to ~15 m above sea level. From the naturum you see forests and coast to the west, and Lygnern’s blue water to the east.

• Culture on the ridge: A few minutes’ walk from the centre lies Li grave field—Halland’s largest Viking-Age burial ground with over 100 standing stones (127 recorded historically). Look for the nearly 4.7 m “Frodestenen.”

• Clean water story: Lygnern is the drinking-water source for Kungsbacka; the ridge’s sand and gravel help filter it—something you’ll learn in the exhibits.
